About the Blue Schools Caribbean Network

The Blue Schools programme in the Caribbean, coordinated by IOCARIBE (IOC-UNESCO), is a regional platform to promote Ocean Literacy through education, strengthening the connection between schools and the ocean. The network includes 12+ coordinators across the Caribbean region, with Aruba as one of the participating countries alongside Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Venezuela.

Current Status: As of July 2025, the Caribbean Blue Schools Network is consolidating as a collaborative framework that empowers educators, engages students, and strengthens the relationship between schools and the marine environment.

Program Goals

The Blue Schools Caribbean Network focuses on three main objectives:

Goal 1: Strengthening Ocean Literacy

Engage school communities in the deep understanding and appreciation of the oceans

Goal 2: Curricular Integration

Integrate ocean literacy into school curricula through strategic partnerships

Goal 3: Educator and Coordinator Training

Provide the necessary resources and support to implement ocean-focused education

Blue Schools Program Overview

Blue Schools is a global IOC-UNESCO initiative that promotes ocean literacy in schools through interdisciplinary learning and community engagement. It supports SDGs 14, 4, and 17, empowering students to connect with the ocean and become active stewards.

Role of National Coordinator (Aruba)

As the National Blue Schools Coordinator for Aruba, responsibilities include:
